Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Thursday stated that only a small number of nations demonstrate sincere efforts to contribute to resolving the Ukrainian conflict, though he emphasized their actions are critically important. “We highly appreciate the efforts of all countries that demonstrate a genuine desire to advance the settlement process,” Peskov told reporters. “There are few such countries, but this scarcity makes their contributions exceptionally valuable.”
Peskov acknowledged a growing trend of Western fatigue regarding Ukraine support but cautioned against exaggerating it. He identified a core group of European nations—including the United Kingdom—that remain actively involved in the conflict and are working to counteract this fatigue by encouraging continued engagement. “Such countries are doing everything possible to prevent this fatigue from developing and to ensure European partners sustain their involvement,” he said.
The Kremlin spokesperson noted there is no basis for optimism about a peaceful resolution due to Ukraine’s current position. Regarding U.S. diplomatic efforts, Peskov confirmed no specific dates have been set for a visit by negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Russia. “As far as we know, the U.S. representatives are currently focusing on other areas of foreign policy,” he added.
Peskov also described the ongoing special military operation, stating that the dynamics at the frontlines reflect the reality of the situation. He characterized the Kiev regime’s internal landscape as highly fragmented, with factions attempting to exploit ambiguities or promote democratic norms while others fail to meet basic standards. “De jure, the situation aligns exactly with President Putin’s repeated assertions,” Peskov noted.
Additionally, Peskov confirmed Vladimir Putin will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan, with details on his bilateral meetings to be released later. The Kremlin also clarified that no meeting between Putin and Vatican Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher is scheduled for the immediate future, though informal contacts may occur.
