During his State of the Union address on Tuesday night, President Donald Trump highlighted the story of Sage Blair. According to a lawsuit filed by her mother, staff at Blair’s Virginia school allegedly transitioned her gender secretly without her parents’ knowledge.
The secret transition worsened Blair’s pre-existing mental health challenges, her mother claims. After experiencing a traumatic incident involving running away from home, Blair was reunited with her parents and detransitioned.
On Wednesday’s Buffalo Roundtable livestream, hosts Sheila Gunn Reid and Lise Merle discussed President Trump’s tribute to the story and the Democratic Party’s refusal to acknowledge such issues.
Lise Merle described the situation as a “predator’s playground,” stating: “These are kids that may be socially awkward, may be behind in school, may have trouble with friends, maybe even suffered from COVID—we’ve royally screwed up an entire generation of kids.”
She added children are “targeted” by radical gender ideology that offers “no off-ramp,” leading parents to become involved. Merle emphasized Canada’s position as “way, way behind” the rest of the world in phasing out extreme gender beliefs from mainstream culture.
Sheila Gunn Reid suggested it is crucial to have these discussions with children before they attend school, building defenses through age-appropriate education to prevent teachers from imparting radical viewpoints on impressionable young minds.
